The Disney World theme parks are always magical to visit, but never more so than during the holiday season. Whether you're traveling to Orlando on vacation or you're a local resident, there are a handful of Disney events you won't want to miss over the next month. Here are the top five we recommend checking out while you celebrate the holidays.

1. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at The Magic Kingdom

This is by far the best holiday tradition to take part in at Disney during December. Mickey Mouse partners with Santa to spread Christmas cheer throughout the park. The Magic Kingdom will close to anyone who doesn't have a ticket to the holiday party, so you can ride your favorite attractions without battling enormous crowds. Plus, there are special shows and character meet-and-greet opportunities, as well as holiday treats and drinks.

The party takes place on select nights from now until December 21. Tickets must be purchased separately from park admission and start at $99. You'll save money if you buy early, so act quickly!

2. International Festival of the Holidays at Epcot

There's nothing more festive than celebrating the holidays like a real world traveler. At the World Showcase in Disney's Epcot, different holiday traditions from around the globe will be brought to life. Taste seasonal foods and take in the wondrous sights, then watch as costumed performers put on shows throughout the night.

International Festival of the Holidays takes place from now until December 30, and admission is free with a valid park ticket.

3. Sunset Seasons Greetings at Hollywood Studios

The Hollywood Tower of Terror Hotel is always Instagram-worthy, but it's never more captivating than when it's decked out in holiday lights and colors. Grab your regular park admission ticket to Hollywood Studios, then enjoy riding your favorite attractions while soaking in a little bit of extra holiday cheer and decor. Even the characters will be dressed up in their Christmas ensembles.

4. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! at Hollywood Studios

This intense firework show comes complete with special effects, unbelievable projections and holiday music. Disney's Hollywood Studios will be decked out in its holiday best, and if you want to take things to the next level, you can indulge in a decadent dessert party before watching the firework show from a special viewing area.

The show will play nightly until January 6 and admission is free, as long as you have tickets to the park.

5. The Candlelight Processional at Epcot

At the World Showcase from November 22 to December 30, at three showtimes per day, a 50-piece orchestra and choir will sing the song of Christmas. A celebrity narrator will also be present to tell the audience the Biblical tale of a babe born in Bethlehem. Listen to the moving performance, then grab dinner at one of Epcot's many fantastic restaurants. Admission to the show is free with a valid park ticket.

Thanksgiving isn't just a time to give thanks for what you have, but also a time to share your fortune and goodwill with others. This year, consider lending your time to one of these organizations. Each of them works to make a difference in the lives of others around this special holiday, and with just a little help, they can do a lot of good.

The United Way of Central Florida

The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, UWCF is hosting an event with their partner, Good Shepherd Hospice, called the annual Lights of Remembrance event. They're in need of people to help set up chairs and tables so that people can gather and move through their grief together during this holiday.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida

Thousands of people throughout Florida help this organization as they strive to eliminate hunger in Central Florida. Visit their website to see what their current opportunities are and how you can volunteer time or money.

Hands on Orlando

Although their Thanksgiving Dinner event is currently at its max number of volunteers, you can still look into helping Hands On provide food and assistance to communities. Throughout the year, they do everything from making meals for the homeless to planting trees.

3rd Annual Homeless Thanksgiving Banquet

The Homeless Banquet team needs your help serving meals to at least 200 homeless residents. They'll also be running a resource expo, a clothing giveaway, entertainment, and a kids zone, so they need all of the volunteer help they can get.

In the wake of the recent tragic shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, many people are wondering what they can do to support the survivors. Reports indicate that 12 people were killed and roughly 25 were injured.

According to the Red Cross, one of the biggest ways you can provide support is to give blood. Visit www.redcrossblood.org to find a donation center near you.

There is also a GoFundMe page where you can donate to support the victims and their loved ones. It was set up by the Westlake Village Rotary Unrestricted Charitable Foundation, a certified charity. So far, they've raised over $37,000 but they hope to reach their $50,000 goal over the next few days.

Another donation option is the Ventura County Community Foundation. They've coordinated with the City of Thousand Oaks to set up a victim relief and recovery fund. The donations go towards providing critical equipment and resources to those affected.

After the trick-or-treating has come to an end and the costumes have been shed, it's time to dive into the trove of delectable candies everyone has brought home. Americans spend roughly $2.5 billion on candy during October, and you can bet that most of it goes un-devoured for weeks after Halloween comes to an end.

Instead of letting your leftover trick-or-treat rewards gather dust in the pantry, and instead of letting your kids mindlessly stuff their faces with sweets, here are a few ways you can get rid of excess candy without waste.

1. Find a candy buyback program. Many dentists, doctor offices, and other local businesses have signed up to participate in an organized candy buyback event. Just take your candy to one of the partners and they'll give you $1 for every pound you donate. They then take the unwanted treats and send them to troops overseas via a Veteran's Organization. To find a buyback station near you, click here

2. Donate the candy to charity. There are always others who will appreciate the candy you don't want. You can give to Operation Gratitude, an organization that packs and sends care packages of candy to soldiers overseas. The Ronald McDonald House also gives unopened candy to families with severely ill children.

3. Bake the candy into something new.
Candy brownie trifle, Halloween candy cake, trash bark... The possibilities are endless. Click here for some Halloween candy baking inspiration.

We're already on the brink of a full-blown flu season here in Florida, and doctors are saying that you should get your flu shot ASAP. Last year's season was one of the worst we've seen in over a decade and health officials are hoping to avoid a high flu death toll this season.

The vaccination this year has changed to cover the strains that are circulating this season, and according to the CDC, the shot may reduce your chances of getting influenza by 40 to 60 percent. Even if you do contract the illness after getting the vaccine, it should reduce the severity of the flu and help prevent hospitalization.

Everyone over the age of six months should be vaccinated by the end of October. There are specialized dosages for high-risk groups like the children and the elderly, and this year, many places are even offering the nasal spray instead of needle-based vaccines. If you've heard that getting the flu shot makes you contract the flu, disregard the myth. The CDC has stated that there is no possibility of getting influenza from the vaccine

Not sure where to get your flu shot? Click here to find out what pharmacies and stores are offering the vaccine near you.

With Hurricane Michael gaining strength and barreling toward the Florida Panhandle, now's the time to think about how you and your family prepare for hurricanes. You probably already know a lot about preparing for such emergencies, but have you really thought about how you'll care for your pet should things take a dangerous turn?

According to FEMA, here are some of the steps all homeowners should take if they live in areas often affected by severe hurricanes.

1. Plan ahead.

You know where your safe room in the house is, but where will your animals go if the weather is life-threatening? Horses, big dogs, and other creatures might need to seek safety at nearby animal shelters. Figure out where all of your pets will go and what needs to be done in order to get them there. If you're evacuating and you cannot bring the animal with you, make sure it's staying with a trusted organization or caregiver.

2. Think about your pet's emergency supplies.

You're stocked up on food and water for the family, but what about your pet's foods and medications? Keep those on hand in case you can't access a pet store any time soon. Also, you should make sure your pet has proper ID tags so that they can be identified should they get lost in the chaos of a bad hurricane.

3. Move animals indoors if possible.

The safest place for most pets is inside with you. Although your porch or barn might seem safe, it's a better idea to keep the animals in a place where you can monitor them as the weather worsens.

4. Never leave pets chained up outside when disaster looms.

Even if you must leave your animals outside for some reason, make sure they are free to move about and seek safety on their own. Leaving a pet tied up weakens their ability to protect themselves and may result in injury or even death.
