Dice games are thrilling and exciting. Whether you are playing in a casino or online, the dice game is a game of probability and chance. Typically, dice games refer to craps, gambling games that are played in casinos. However, home games like the Yahtzee will provide the same kind of excitement and fun, just like casino games.

The best thing is that you can use probability to increase your chances of winning the dice game.

Understanding The Probability of the Dice Game

Here are some of the ways you can use probability in dices.

Understand The Total Combinations

The probability will vary greatly depending on the sides as well as the number of dice. The probability will depend on the possible dice combinations. For instance, for a single dice, there’s a 1/6 chance that you will a given number. The possibilities increasesix times every time an extra dice is introduced.

So, for two dice, the combinations will be 36(6*6). For three, it will be 216(36*6), etc.

Learn The Likelihood of a Number

To be able to know how frequently a number can be rolled, you have to find out the times that specific number can be made from the dices you have. For instance, say you have three dices, the likelihood of getting an 8 will be 21/216.  All the possible combinations are 1-2-4, 1-2-5, 2-2-4, and 1-3-4.

Understand The Probability of 2 Dice Games

Many board games, as well as dice games, will use two dice. Before you can be able to come up with a winning strategy, you have to learn how to compute the probability of 2 dice games. Computing the probability of two dice games is pretty straightforward.

All you have to do is to multiply the total combination by 2. This way, you will be able to determine the maximum ways you can be able to reach the number in question. For example, 7 can be obtained by three combinations; 2-5, 1-6, and 3-4.

Since you are dealing with two dices, multiply the total number of combinations by 2. So, in our case, that will be (3*2), giving us 6/36 possible combinations.

Please note the above example is for six-sided dice. In case you use dice with more sides, the probability will definitely change.

Computing Odds in Craps

Craps rely purely on chance. However, you can be use statistics to determine how you will be able to bet.

Normally, you win on the first roll of craps if you bet an 11 or a 7. There are three possible combinations if you play a 7; 3-4, 1-6 and 2-5. Since we are dealing with two dice, you multiply the three combinations to get six possible combinations out of the possible thirty-six combinations or a 17% chance for that matter.

For 11, there can only be one combination; 6-5. If you multiply the combination with two, you have two out of the possible thirty-six or a 5.5% chance.

To determine the probability that you will be able to win on your first roll, you will add 1/18 and 1/6, giving you 8/36 or simply a 22% chance.

In craps, avoid rolls of 12, 3, and 2 – they are known to be natural losing numbers.
